How fit are you? For me it's been a long year, my birthday is on September 26th so I'm taking this special day to declare it a new year and a new beginning! Being fit isn't just about your body, how fit are you financially? What about emotionally fit? Even, and this is my favorite, socially fit? “Social fitness” involves building and maintaining healthy connections with others. It plays an important role in supporting optimal performance and resilience. A person who is socially fit grows trusted and valued relationships with family, friends and business associates.
Because of my social fitness I have been able to overcome many obstacles and even conquer some fitness issues. I'm still working on the financial fitness part, aren't we all?? I continue to strive for improvement and to grow my business so that others will be able to improve their social and financial fitness too.
Emotionally I'm getting stronger after feeling like I've been kicked a few times. And part of that emotional growth has been to get physically fit. I've started working out with Delfina, a personal trainer, and she is kicking my butt but in a really good way! I told Delfina that I don't like cardio and love weights then my doctor said no weights until your elbow heals~ tennis elbow, I don't even play tennis! So now we are working out and doing what Delfina says is cardio but I think of it as fun- ski turns, frog leaps, up and down semi jumps - I'm sure these have real exercise names. Gravity defying sit ups and sissor kicks and many other exercises that keep me on my toes, something new that makes each session fun and challenging. There have been days I thought that I had too much work to do to spend time working out but I went anyway, which is why I hired a personal trainer - I don't like to waste money! (financial fitness). So I show up and work out and laugh and am so happy that I'm getting physically fit. You might not notice a change in me yet but if you could feel the soreness in my muscles you'd know that I'm on my way to being fit.
Working out 3 days a week is keeping me focused on my eating habits, and Delfina encourages me to walk on my days off, so if you'd like to improve your physical fitness stop by and see me on a Tuesday or Thursday and let's take a fast stroll through downtown, if we walk really fast we might even be able to stop and enjoy a great salad from Vinology. And you know red wine is good for the heart but not so much for the waistline - at least not at this point, but Vinology has some really great wines! I'll keep you posted as to my fitness progress and would love to hear your stories too. These stories will be posted in the health section on WomenMakingConnections.com.
